Capacity Analysis of Single-User and Multi-User MIMO with Split MLSE Adaptive Equalization

It is well known that the employment of multiple antennas at both the transmitter and receiver increases the overall system capacity. This paper presents an overview of capacity variation in single-user and multiuser multiple-inputmultiple-output (MIMO) systems in Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) and Rayleigh fading channels under the assumption that channel state information (CSI) is known at both the transmitter and the receiver. The capacity gain is reduced if the CSI is not perfect. We compare the multiuser MIMO with the single-user MIMO channel capacity. The proposed approach in AWGN and Rayleigh fading uses Maximum-Likelihood Sequence Estimation (MLSE) algorithm based equalization in bifurcated form for MIMO streams in the receiver. The proposed system is analyzed in terms of bit error rate (BER) with signals to noise ratio (SNR).
